Health Canada updates tent regulations (flammability)

On November 20, 2024, the Tents Regulations (SOR/2024-217) under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act were published in Canada Gazette , Part II. Consequential amendments to the Toys Regulations add fire-safety labeling and flammability performance requirements for children's play tents (“toys intended to be entered by a child”). The recalled Pehr Designs Inc. Kimono Rompers do not comply with the flammability requirements for children’s sleepwear, posing a risk of burn injuries to children. Loose-fitting children’s sleepwear can contact ignition sources such as stove elements, candles, and matches more readily than tight-fitting sleepwear, and once ignited will burn rapidly, potentially resulting in severe burns to large areas of the child’s body. CAF submits preliminary comments on CUSMA Renewal

The Canadian Apparel Federation has submitted preliminary comments to the Canadian government regarding the renewal of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement, (CUSMA).  CUSMA (known as USMCA in the United States) is the successor to NAFTA. Minister Ng Launches Consultations on Forced Labour

The Canadian government has  requested comments on its forced labour import ban. The review was announced  earlier this month and the deadline for comments is: November 15, 2024.  In the 2023 and 2024 budgets, the Canadian government promised to enhance the import prohibition.  Canada first enacted a ban on the import of goods made in whole or in part with forced labour as part of the implementation of the Canada-US Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) in July 2020.
