De minimis fallout

De minimis fallout

Over the last few weeks, as the significance of the end of the de minimis program took hold, CAF began planning a webinar to explain in simple terms how companies (especially those that have developed e-commerce sales in the US supported by the de minimis exemption) can use the provisions of CUSMA to export apparel and textile products to the United States.

In recent days, we have had a number of dire conversations with exporters, many of whom have to change their business model substantially.

Despite the fact that de minimis program has been a political football in the US for several years, many companies using the program had no knowledge that it was being cancelled, nor were they able to find credible information about alternative strategies for exporting to the United States.

We are in the process of recruiting a panel of customs brokers, trade lawyers and other service providers to serve on a webinar/panel to discuss some of the pressing issues facing exporters.

There’s a lot of misinformation out there, and ultimately, having a broad panel will allow us to get at many of these topics.

We anticipate a 60-90 minute presentation and, more importantly, a discussion around some frequently asked questions.
