Description
Join the Canadian Apparel Federation and AFS Law on February 25th for a webinar that will help firms in the apparel industry understand the implications of major changes to US tariff policy.
On February 20, 2026 the US Supreme Court issued a decision that overturned many tariff actions taken by the Trump administration under the authority of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). IEEPA had been the basis for a range of tariffs imposed on Canada, Mexico and China (for failure to limit flows of illicit drugs into the US) and for "reciprocal tariffs" on numerous countries first announced by the administration in April 2025.
Following the decision, the US administration has indicated it will move forward with various tariff actions, and in the longer term these will focus on measures that address national security and unfair trading practices.
The webinar will deal with the current state of tariff policy in the US, including
-
When the IEEPA tariffs will no longer be collected.
-
Refund process for IEEPA tariffs paid by importers into the US.
-
Impact of the Supreme Court decision on reciprocal trade agreements
-
Status of other tariff measures and their impact on trade in apparel.
-
Whether and how these measures impact current North American trade and the renegotiation of CUSMA/USMCA.
-
Other related measures.
