Temporary China
On ___the US announced a commitment to reduce the Tariffs on Chinese imported goods under the IEEPA reciprocal tariff provision to 10% (from 125%) effective on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 for at least 90 days, or until August 12, 2025. China has also agreed to lower the tariffs it imposed on US goods.
While these are positive steps, the US continues to impose very high duties/tariffs on Chinese goods.
We continue to receive many calls from members concerning the current duties/tarifs that apply to Chinese goods entering the US.
AMERICAN ACTIONS: The United States will remove the additional tariffs it imposed on China on April 8 and April 9, 2025, but will retain all duties imposed on China before April 2, 2025, including Section 301 tariffs, Section 232 tariffs, tariffs imposed in response to the fentanyl national emergency invoked under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, and Most Favored Nation tariffs.
Thus, China will now be subject to the following rates of duty on products
- MFN rate (7-17% for most items of apparel)
- 301 rate (7.5% on most apparel products)
- IEEPA Fentanyl (20%)
- IEEPA Reciprocal tariff (10%)

The implementation details were published in the Cargo Systems Messaging Service. These notices are usually issued immediately before implementation
Reaction
While markets welcomed the announcement, it remains the case that many smaller importers into the US will be no better off than they were before the announcement, see: Tariffs are Taxes and Small Businesses Foot the Bill.
