Government Relations
How CAF Advocates for the Canadian Apparel Industry
The Canadian Apparel Federation (CAF) plays an instrumental role in shaping the industry's future through its lobbying and government relations efforts. Our goal is to safeguard the best interests of our members and the broader apparel sector in Canada.
Direct Engagement with Government
We maintain strong relationships with federal government departments and agencies. This collaborative approach places us in a distinctive position to offer \ strategic advice to our members, helping them navigate complex regulatory environments. It also positions us as a trusted stakeholder in key policy discussions.
Explaining Policies to Industry
CAF regularly organizes webinars, workshops, and other educational events. These initiatives aim to equip our members with the knowledge they need to understand crucial issues that could impact their operations, both in the short term and long term.
Staying Informed
Understanding government regulations and trade policies is crucial for informed decision-making. We actively monitor changes on both federal and provincial levels, serving as a trusted information source for both the government and the industry. We also provide personalized support to members with specific questions or concerns.
Tangible Benefits through Lobbying
Our activities lead to bottom line benefits for members, whether this is in the area of tariffs, domestic procurement, or other regulatory issues
Long-term Initiatives
Changing laws and regulations take an exceedingly long time. Especially when these statutes are dependent/related to international commitments. We understand the process involved and devote the effort needed to make effective change. Some tariff changes have taken over a decade to secure. Other labelling statutes have taken even longer to take account of basic problems identified by industry. These actions are both an investment and an insurance policy: we are investing in our industry’s future and and protecting firms from undo risks.
Collaborative Partnerships
CAF has set up advisory committees in partnership with regulatory bodies like the Competition Bureau and Health Canada. These committees enable direct involvement of firms in reviewing and potentially reforming regulations that affect the industry.
By being a member of CAF, you're not just part of an organization; you're part of a collective force shaping the future of Canada's apparel industry.
